Mary Ferguson was born on 21 August 1813 in Liberty township in Union county, Indiana. She was the daughter of William Ferguson (1781-1850) and Judith Walker (1780-1845) and she had ten siblings. On 28 February 1833, Mary was wed to John Scott in Montgomery county, Indiana.[1] They had two children in Indiana, their third was born in Illinois in 1837 and they arrived in Linn county, Iowa before 1839. They have seven children in their home in 1850 and have lost three.[2] By 1860, Mary had three more children, but she has lost three others and also her husband, John, who died in 1855.[3]

Mary is living in the household of her son, Joseph, in Marion township in 1880 and 1885.[4][5]
Mary died in Marion on 31 August 1887.[6] Her body was buried in Campbell Cemetery in Bertram.[7]
