Biography

Mary (Ferguson) Edmiston was born in Scotland.

Mary Fergus was baptised on 24 May 1801 in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of James Fergus and Ann Bryson.^[1][2]

She married Robert Edmiston on 2 July 1825 in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire.^[3][4]

Together they had 4 children:

• Anne Edmiston, born 1826^[5]
• Margaret Edmiston, born 1829^[6]
• John Edmiston, born 1832^[7]
• Janet Wardrop Edmiston, born 1834^[8]

In 1841, she was living in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, with her husband Robert and their children Ann (14), Margaret (11), Jessie (7) and John (3).^[9]

In 1851, when she was 50, she was living in Cambuslang, Lanarkshire with her son John (13), daughter Jessie (17), nieces Christina (24) and Agness Glen (22) and her granddaughter Mary Liddel (3). Her occupation at this time was Dresser and Washer.^[10] A second record of this census return indicates she was a widow at this time.^[11]

She passed away in 1858 in Cambuslang at age 58.^[12]
