Biography

Esther Ferguson was born on April 10, 1841, in Tracadie, New Brunswick, Canada, to David Fergusson and Juliennne Gautreau. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)

She married Gustave Gionet, son of Jean Gionet and Tharsile Frigault. Gustave was a resident of Caraquet, and Esther was a resident of Saumarez, New Brunswick. Witnesses at the wedding were William Archer and Helen Young.[1]

Their children:

  • David Gionet, born on November 21, 1866, and baptized that same day in Caraquet, NB. His godparents were Alexandre Gionet and Charlotte Poirier. [2]He married twice: (1) Philomene Albert, daughter of Samuel Albert and Philomene Lanteigne, on August 9, 1897, in Caraquet, NB;[3] and (2) Christine Lanteigne, daughter of Nazaire Lanteigne and Obeline Poirier, on July 15, 1928 in Bas-Caraquet NB.[4]
  • Odile Gionet, born on July 26,1868, and baptized on July 31, 1868, in Caraquet,NB. Her godparents were Germain Dugas and Marthe Gionet. [2] She married Joseph J. Sewell (Profile is private) on April 20, 1896, in Caraquet.[5]
  • Michel Gionet, born on October 15, 1870, and baptized the next day in Caraquet, NB. His godparents were Michel Gionet and Archange Bulger. [2]On January 7, 1896, he married Martha Mushreal aka Mazerolle, daughter of Jeremiah Mushreal and Flora (Maune) Mushreal, in Shirley, Massachussetts, USA. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)
  • Philomene "Minnie" Gionet, born September 8, 1874, and baptized September 12, 1874, in Caraquet, NB. Her godparents were Eustazade Albert and (illegible) Gionet. [2]She married Michel Bulger on November 8, 1897, in Shirley, Massachussetts, USA. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)
  • Anne, born October 4, 1872, and baptized on October 13, 1872, in Caraquet, NB. Her godparents were Charles Doucet and Julie Poirier. [2]Sadly, Anne survived less than a month and died in Caraquet on November 1, 1876, and was buried on December 3, 1876. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)
  • Christine Gionet was born on August 6, 1876, and was baptized the next day in Caraquet NB. Her godparents were Jean Lanteigne and Mélanie Poulin. [2]Christine married Sylvain Thomas, son of of Guillaume Thomas and Judith Boucher, on August 9, 1904, in Ayer, Shirley, Massachussetts, USA. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)
  • Marie-Anne Gionet, born on June 4, 1878, and baptized on June 10, 1878, in Caraquet NB. Her godparents were Aimé Gionet and Hélèene Gionet. [2]On October 30, 1905, married Francois-Xavier "Frank" Duguay, son of Jean-Baptiste Duguay and Madeleine Parise, in Ayer, Shirley, Massachussetts, USA. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)
  • Marie-Alma Gionet, born on March 21, 1881, and baptized on March 25, 1881, in Caraquet NB. Her godparents were David Gionet and Christine Lanteigne. [2]She married Charles Secco, in New York City, NY, USA. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)
  • Esther Marie Gionet, born on December 8, 1886, and baptized on December 12, 1886, in Caraquet, NB. Her godparents were Guillaume Gionet and Zoé Poulin. [6]On April 12, 1910, she married Fred Arseneau, son of Clement Arseneau and Esther Gatreau, in Shirley (registered in Leominister), Massachussetts, USA. [8]

It can be surmised that Gustave and Esther spent the earlier years of their marriage in Caraquet, since all his children were born there (the latest born in December 1886) and baptized at Caraquet's Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens parish. It is not until 1870 that we see their children begin marrying in Massachussetts, and it is likely that Gustave and Esther moved there with his family between 1886 and 1870, possibly for work.

Esther Ferguson passed away in 1924. (Research Note: A source for this information is needed.)
