Ben H. Ferguson was the oldest son of Don Ferguson and Ona Nelson. Ben was a devoted husband, father, military veteran, and prominent electrical engineer in the new State of Arizona. After graduating from Throop Polytechnic Institute - now California Institute of Technology (CalTech) in Pasadena, in 1912, Ben served on the first Arizona Corporation Commission and had a successful engineering consulting business for many years. He was also a founding member and president of the first Arizona chapter of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) - now the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Ben was also a military veteran of WWI and a Free Mason.
After completing his degree in electrical engineering Ben served briefly as a private in the US Army Signal Corps during WWI as listed on his application and engraved headstone: Co 8320 Eld Sig Bn 1/C - 34 Co 185Th D B 95 Div
