Biography

Friends Thomas Charles Vass Field and Hugh Ferguson left England together, going at first to Australia where they worked in the Ballarat, Bendigo and Daisy Hill goldfields. They came to New Zealand in 1854, worked in the Golden Bay goldfields and in 1860 took up land at Pakawau.

Nelson Evening Mail 22nd July 1868 [1] MARRIED : FERGUSON - CLARK - July 21st at St. Mary's by the Rev. A.M. Garin, Mr. Hugh Ferguson of Massacre Bay to Mary Ann, third daughter of the late Mr. John Clark of Nelson and Pakawau.

Hugh Ferguson was buried next to his wife Mary Ann in Collingwood Cemetery on the 27th July 1921 aged 89 years. block D plot 36A
