John Elon Ferguson was born at Ravenswood, Queensland, on the 23rd of December 1906, the son of John Ferguson and Esther Pountney.^[1]

John was also known as Jack. At the age of 14, the family moved from Ravenswood to Gordonvale, and from there to Home Hill, Queensland in July 1923.

John Ferguson married Eva Strike at Home Hill, Queensland, on the 6th of May 1930.^[2]

He was well known in the north as a master butcher in partnership with his father. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Bowling club.^[3]

They had two sons:

1. "Jack" John Raymond Ferguson
2. Robert Leinster Ferguson

John Elon Ferguson passed away at Home Hill, Queensland, on the 15th of October 1940 and was buried in Gr. No. 67 of the Home Hill Cemetery with his mother on the 16th of October.^[4][5]
