Biography

Anscel Ferguson was the oldest child of likely parents William Ferguson and Anna Henderson - he was born 8 January 1761 and resided with his family in the Fairfield District, South Carolina.

Anscel, like his brother Henderson, emigrated to the Bahama Islands as a young man. He had a plantation on Saint Salvador (Cat Island) and experimented with growing Sea Island cotton.

Anscel married Ann Cooke at Christ Church, Nassau, Bahamas 24 December 1795. The couple had no children. Ann Ferguson married, second, the Reverend John Rutledge, Wesleyan missionary.

Anscel Ferguson, planter, died in Nassau, Bahamas in 1814. He is buried in the Western Cemetery.
