Biography

Joseph was born in July 1826 in Ohio County, Virginia, one of the oldest of ten known children and the oldest of four sons of Cornelius and Jane Hemphill Ferrel.

At some point he moved west to Iowa and at an unknown date he married Elizabeth A Dodd in Danville, Des Moines County, Iowa,. They had two known children, a son and a daughter.

On 11 June 1896 in Danville, Des Moines County, Iowa, Joseph died of unknown causes, shortly before his seventieth birthday.
