Biography

Ephraim Ferrell was born in about 1740.[1] His date of birth is based on his age of 45+ in 1800 and 70-79 in 1830. [2][3]

[4]

On 9 Aug 1779, Ephraim was granted 350 acres on the west side of White Oak Creek in Wake County, North Carolina (NC). [5]

In 1800, Ephraim, 45+, is farming in Hillsborough in Wake County, NC. Also living in the household are 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-15, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-15, 3 females 16-25 and 1 female 45+. [6]

In 1806, Eprhaim married Nancy Britt. [7] [8] He does not appear in another census until 1830, when he is living in the Saint Maries District of Wake County, NC. He is between 70 and 79 years of age. Also living in the household are one male 20-29, one female 50-59 (presumably, Nancy) and 1 slave. [9] [10]

Ephraim died on 28 Jan 1837 as indicated in the obituary below.[11]

DEATHS. In this county, in the vicinity of Busbee's Store, on the 28th ult. at a very advanced age, Mr. Ephraim Ferrell, one of the first settlers of the section, in which he lived. He had raised a large family of children in respectability, and his whole life was a pattern for imitation. Of course, his loss to society is severely felt. For many years he had been a shining member of the Baptist Church, and his light faded not unto the end. What a comfort this should be to his surviving friends! It was his constant prayer to God that his departure from the world might be attended with as little boddy pain as possible; and it was most graciously answered for he died with the tranquility of slumber, his surrounding friends scarcely aware of the event, although in faithful attendance upon him. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ephraim by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ephraim:

Hello, I would like to know about Ephraims' wives. Did he have two wives, Chery Busbee and Nancy Britt? He married Chery in 1770 and Nancy in 1807. Chery was still alive in 1807. Looks like there was also a Betsy Parish. Are there two Ephraims? I appreciate any help with this. Thank you
