HEAD-ON CRASH CLAIMS THE LIVES OF TWO CITY MEN
A head-on collision on Highway 2 near Alberton Friday night has claimed the lives of two Brantford residents. Dead are Donald B. Kellock, 19, of 36 Lincoln Ave., and Brian Aurther Ferrell, 20, of 46 Dundas St-E. Rhonda Simmons, 19, of 35 Ontario St., a pasenger in the Ferrell car, is reported in serious condition today at Hamilton General Hospital. She was taken there by police helicopter. The accident occurred just before 6:30pm. on Highway 2 east of White Swan Road - a stretch of road where several serious accidents have occurred in the past 6 months. Mr. Ferrell died after being taken by OPP helicopter to McMaster Medical Centre in Hamilton. It took rescue workers 15 minutes to free Mr. Ferrell and Ms. Simmons from the vehicle which was travelling westbound at the time of the accident. Ambulance crews and rescue workers worked for 30 minutes to free Mr. Kellock. He was taken by ambulance to Brantford General Hospital where he died Friday night. A crowd of onlookers gathered at the accident scene as the tops of the crushed cars were peeled back to aid in freeing the victims. Westbound traffic along Highway 2 was halted for nearly 2 hours. A Brantford OPP officer at the scene said 5 eye-witneses will be interviewed to determine the cause of the accident. He said there appeared to be no indication of either car turning. "It was definitely a head-on". Claudette Hunter saw the accident from her farm on the south side of Highway 2. "I was inside the house feeding the baby when I heard a big bang," she said, "That's all I heard was a bang, no breaks, just a bang. I looked out and saw the cars and smoke and then I called the police," the mother of two explained. Mr. Ferrell is survived by his parents Robert and Janet, brothers Robert and Gregory, and sisters Donna Joy and Dianne, all of Brantford. Funeral service will be at Beckett-Glaves Funeral Home on Monday at 11am. Mr. Kellock is survived by his parents Marilyn and Burton, a brother Rob, and sisters Susan and Julie.
