Research Notes

I have the following notes on Bryant. Will have to search for the sources: On April 4, 1812, Bryant Ferrill/Ferrell requested and received a passport to travel through the Creek Nation to the western country. In August of 1812, he left Screvin County, Georgia with his wife, Susannah, and his seven children (one of whom was six-month old John Wesley Ferrill/Ferrell), along with eleven negro slaves. It is interesting to note that the trail across the Creek Nation was only 4' wide and everything that was transported by Bryant to the Mississippi Territory was done on the back of animals, in wheelbarrows, or on groundsleds. The trail ended outside Lucedale, Mississippi, where some of it can be seen today. He settled on a Spanish land grant on Skinner's Creek. He later moved his famly to an area known as Basin on Indian Creek. There he built his home and raised his family. The Indian Creek location was near the Salem Methodist Campgrounds, where Bryant and his family attended services. The graves of Bryant, his wife Susannah, their son Benjamin and Benjamin's wife Matilda (Ward) Ferrill/Ferrell are located near the old homeplace in a small private cemetery.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Bryant by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Bryant:
