James Ferris was born to John and Mary (Jackson) Ferris in 1682 at Westchester, NY.
James Ferris married Anne Sands about 1715.
James Ferris died in Westchester, Westchester County, between signing his will in August 16, 1746 and the proving of the will on April 14, 1747.
In his will, he leaves all lands to eldest son James. He mentions wife Anne, daughters Martha, Mercy, Elizabeth, Jane, and Mary, the wife of Caleb Pell and gives the large sum of £250 to each of his younger sons Benjamin,[1] and John. The latter's bequest was omitted from Pelletreau's abstract but the equal treatment to both younger sons is clear in the official transcription of the will: "6th. I give to my son Benjamin the sum of Two Hundred Fifty Pounds to be paid to him when he comes to the Age of Twenty one Years . . . 8th, I give to my son John the sum of Two Hundred Fifty Pounds to be paid to him when he comes to the Age of Twenty one Years."[2]
His two younger sons, John Ferris and Benjamin Ferris, also are mentioned in the will of his brother Jonathan Ferris.[3]
