One of the original patentees named in the patent granted to the Town of Greenwich by the General Assembly, May 1665; Commissioned Officer in the militia during the Colonial Period; April Session 1690 commissioned Ensign of the trainband in the Town of Greenwich.
His will is dated 6 June 1723 and a codicil dated 24 October 1726 and proved on 2 December 1726 at Fairfield. His date of death 6 November 1726 is recorded in the heading of his inventory which was taken on 15 February 1726/27.[3]
His estate distribution is recorded on 2 February 1747/48 and recorded at Stamford. James the eldest son received a double portion, and Sylvanus, Mary, Sarah, and Hannah Ferris received a single portion. The widow Mary's "alias Peck" portion was also distributed.[4]
