Biography

Joseph Ferris was born the "6th mo 20 1657" (Aug 20, 1657 using updated calendar) at Stamford, Connecticut. He was the son of Peter.[1]

Joseph married Mary Hoyt Dec 12, 1686 at Stamford.[2]

Joseph and Mary had the following known children:[3]

  1. Joseph, b March 21, 1688; m Mercy Buxton Jan 30, 1718; m Deborah Crissey
  2. Mary, b Dec 12, 1690; m ______ Wood (sic)
  3. Nathan, b Oct 22, 1694
  4. Samuel, b Sept 5, 1696; m Experience Crissy Feb 26, 1729
  5. Elizabeth, b March 19, 1699; m Joseph Purdy in 1723
  6. Abigail, b Apr 13, 1701; m John Penoyer in 1725
  7. Hannah, b June 29, 1704; m Charles Thorp
  8. Deborah, b Aug 27, 1706; m Joseph Husted

According to Mead (who isn't always accurate), Joseph died about 1727.[3]

Joseph Ferris, Sr. died April 7, 1733, at Stamford, Connecticut.

His will is dated 31 March 1726 and proved on 4 May 1736. All the children or their husbands signed and agreed to the distribution of the will, viz, Mary Ferris, Joseph Ferris, Nathan Ferris, Samuel Ferris, Mary Weed, Joseph Pardee, Elisabeth Pardee, John Penoyer, Abigail Penoyer, Charles Thorp, Hannah Thorp, Joseph Husted, and Deborah Husted.[4]

NOTE: Uncertain if this is the same Joseph.[5]

I think one of the Abigail's needs to be removed as their daughter.

I researched Abigail Ferris and her marriage to Jonathan Husted, and can find no quality sources that show her parentage - or even if her last name was truly Ferris. Abigail (Ferris) Husted has been disconnected as his daughter, with a link to Joseph in her profile under Disputed Origins section
