Marie came to Canada with her brother Jean-Claude (Jack). Her other brother Michel and his family were already here. The Ferroux family had settled in the Red Deer area and Marie was working as a live-in domestic for a family in Edmonton where her daughter was born. While she was in Edmonton the family in Red Deer pulled up stakes and moved to British Columbia because they felt the climate in Alberta was too severe.
Father Ferroux (Catholic Priest), the family Patriarch, went ahead to find a suitable place. Of course this was all done on foot or horse back in those days. The folk lore goes that they came to a river that they couldn't cross as it was swollen from the rain, so they took another route and ended up in Carmi, British Columbia. That was as far as they could go as there were no trails or roads any further.
Father Ferroux was unhappy about Marie living in Edmonton with her daughter alone so sent her the train fare to join them in Carmi. Some time later he introduced her to Michel Caron and they married shortly after.
Michel and Marie lived the rest of their lives on the farm in Midway that had been cleared of logs by hand by Michel and his brother "Joe". The logs were hauled out by horse.
Marie's middle name carried through to future generations. Her granddaughter Julie Clothilde Caron has her name (vorn March 23, 1944 - ).
