Benjamin was born in Chertsey Surrey in 1845. He is the son of James Field and Caroline Javes. Benjamin was christened in Chertsey on 7 December 1845.
Benjamin worked as a labourer and later on became an employee of the railway, working variously as a plate layer and a flagman.
On 14 September 1873 at Christ Church New Malden Surrey, Benjamin married Ellen Reeve. Ellen was the mother of a daughter at the time of their wedding. Benjamin and Ellen would have 5 children together, born between 1875 and 1882.
Benjamin passed away in Wandsworth London in August 1916 at about age 71.
