Biography

Birth

Haskell was born in 1828. He is the son of Daniel and Cynthia Field [1].

Life

In 1850 [2], Haskell was living in Searsport, Waldo, Maine, United States with his parents, Daniel S Field III (abt.1799-1875) and Cynthia (Nickerson) Field (1805-1887) and 7 of his siblings.

In 1860 [3], he was living in Swanville, Waldo, Maine, United States with his wife, Sarah Downes (Staples) Field (1831-1877), and their three oldest children, Mary E (Field) Griffin (1850-1885), Frederick Eugene Miller Field (abt.1857-1931), William H Field (1859-1902).

Haskell registered for the US Civil War Draft in 1863 [4] when he was 36 years old. His occupation was listed as a farmer in Swanville, Maine.

In 1910 [5], Haskell was living in Searsport, Waldo, Maine, United States with his sister, Nancy (Field) Lorimer (1840-1920) and brother-in-law, Andrew Lorimer (1837-1915). Occupation is listed as "Farmer, Retired".

Occupation

Haskell spent the early part of his life on the family farm in Swanville, Maine and he was a farmer until the age of 44. According to a [[letter]] from Lillian Elinor (Field) Smith (1899-1974), in 1871 Haskell moved to Chelsea, Massachusetts to join one of his brothers in the trucking business in Boston, taking his son Frederick Eugene Miller Field (abt.1857-1931) with him. "At that time trucking was not motorized but 6 or 8 heavy horses drew a big drays (or wagons) which were used to haul from the boats to the wholesale houses throughout the city." Haskell remained in Chelsea, Massachusetts at least through 1880, but returned to Maine by 1910 after retiring.

Marriages

Haskell's first wife, Sarah Downes (Staples) Field died 26 Apr 1877 [6]. He married is second wife, Mary E Green on 27 Apr 1880 [7].

Death

Haskell Noyes Field died 11 Aug 1912 at age 84 in Reading, Reading, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States [8] [9].

Haskell N. Field's cemetery record [10] indicates that he was born in 1827 and died in 1912. He is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, R #131, Swanville, Waldo, Maine. Sharing the lot is his wife, Sarah D., born 15 Sep 1831, died 26 Apr 1877. A note on the record refers to Leith S. Black lot. The record for Leith S. Black [11] indicates that Haskell N. and Sarah D. share the lot with Leith S. Black (b. 1832, d. 1942), Leith's wife Josephine E. (b. 1863 d. 1944), Capt. William H. (d. 22 Apr 1876), and Malinda S. (b. 1827, d. 1891). The relationship between Haskell N. Field and Leith S. Black is unclear, but is presumably through Jane Black, his grandmother.

On his death certificate [12], Haskell's occupation is listed as Retired Truckman.

Haskell Noyes Field is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Swanville, Waldo County, Maine, USA [13].
