Note : Zachariah Field has been detached as the son, since there is no evidence for the relationship.

There's probably a flaw that needs to be fixed as editing this page causes this warning to appear: "Check the data. A father's death date (Field-446 died 2 Jun 1636) should not be more than nine months before one of his children's birth dates (Field-5395 born 1643) "

Biography

JOHN FIELD (John, Richard, William, William, Thomas, Thomas, John, Thomas, Roger), b. Ardsley, England, about 1568; m. __ __. He was born in Ardsley, but evidently moved away before reaching his majority, for he was not mentioned in his father's will. Osgood Field is of the opinion that he died young, as he was not mentioned in the wills of his father or mother. Res. Ardsley, England.[1][2]

Children by wife Jane Sotwell

  1. William Field b: Bet. 1590 - 1600
  2. Zachariah Field b: 1596 in Ardsley, Yorkshire, England d: 30 June 1666 in Hatfield, Hampshire, MA m. Mary Stanley b: Abt. 1598 in Hartford, CT d: Abt. 1670 in Hatfield, Hampshire, MA m: 1641 in Hartford, CT
  3. John Field b: 1597 in Thurnscoe, Bradford, Yorkshire, England d: 22 March 1685/86 in Providence, Providence, RI m. Ruth Fairbank b: Abt. 15 April 1622 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England d: 1687 in Providence, Providence, RI m: Abt. 1638 in Providence, Providence, RI

Removed the "Sir" prefix since he was not the first-born son of John "the Astronomer" Field (who was given a unique version of the Field coat of arms showing his contribution to Astronomy).

Another source shows that his brother William married Jane Stotwell, not John https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Field-488

John was born about 1568. He passed away about 1611.

In researching my ancestors, I found a site that attributes Henry Field (1598-1664) as son of John Field (1568-1636):

https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GHRZ-G1F Although the above website (apparently) mistakenly lists John Field, Jr. as Sir John Field. On the wikitree page, I'm not seeing Henry Field listed as a son of John Field Jr., nor of Sir John. In fact, I cannot find Henry Field born 1598 on this site at all. Any guidance would be appreciated! I'm very new to this, but very excited to learn.

Field-5394 and Field-446 appear to represent the same person because: dups with same spouse and same son Zach

I've removed Ellen Hutchinson from this John Field. Field-446

She is still att. to Field-1516 where she should be.

Hello, have you had a chance to think about removing Ellen Hutchinson from this profile?

Given the comment below is it now time to remove Ellen Hutchinson from this profile? She is already listed as husband of Field-1516. Thank you

The Field Genealogy Vol 1 page 83 shows Jane Sotwell, dau of Rev John Sotwell and widow of George Burdett, married William Field. And not John Field who married Ellen Hutchinson.

Field-4394 and Field-446 appear to represent the same person because: Looks like they're pretty much identical except the one I created has a slightly different date of birth

I missed this page when I created Field-4394.

Other than the small detail of the birthday I show of 1 Jan 1556 it looks like the 2 men are identical

Guess we should merge them

Field-1516 and Field-446 do not represent the same person because: I have these as two separate individuals - both descendants of William Field, b. 1400.
