I believe he is the first Colburn to settle in Cumberland County and one of the first to people to propect at Springhill. He petitioned for land around River Philip/Pugwash in 1792 along with Asa Filmore b. 1756 in Cumberland NS, Benjamin Day Filmore b. 1770 Jolicure NB, both sons of John Filmore and Leah Day. The other petitioner was Peter McElmon who married Margaret Filmore in 1787 at Jolicure NB.

I believe Richard originated from the Colburns in Mass. USA but I have no link as to where he was born. Thanks. Craig

Richard Colburn DianeSibley42 (View posts) Posted: 24 Aug 2000 07:00AM Classification: Query Edited: 30 Jan 2004 10:16AM Surnames: COLBURN Craig: My great-grandmother was Sarah Colburn, daughter of Benjamin and Jane Colburn. Benjamin was a son of Richard and Dorcas Fillmore Colburn. The information I have from LDS Film 1985443 says Richard was son of Moses Colburn Jr and Hannah Burpee. It also indicates Richard was born Sheffield, Westmoreland County, New Brunswick and was married 1780 at Jolicure, New Brunswick.
