A second son of a well known Penticton family has paid the supreme sacrifice for King and Country. He is Lt. Gordon Finch, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sid Finch, bench, who was recently killed with the First Canadian Army in Germany, according to information reaching his wife, Mrs. Mary Finch, Penticton... When war broke out Lt. Finch tried to join the forces in Victoria, and in June, 1940, while on a surveying party with R. P. Brown, of Penticton, at Hedley, he enlisted in the B. C. Regiment (D.C.O.R.) with his brother... Lt. Finch was sent overseas on a special course in May 1942 and re-joined his regiment when the fourth division went to England in September, 1942. He was selected to attend Sandhurst Military College and graduated from there with the rank of lieutenant in September, 1944. Lt. Finch expressed great regret that he had not been able to go into action with the fourth division in July, 1944, because his brother's unit was in that division. Lt. Finch, following his graduation transferred to the infantry and went into action in mid-December of last year. This young officer was killed before he had an opportunity to visit the grave of his brother on Hill 195 at Falaise... [1]
