Claude B. Thummel, "Descendants of John Finch of Connecticut" self published 1965.
NOTE that Thummel shows John "buried in cemetery between Wappinger Falls and Fishkill Village, Dutchess Co, NY" I am simplifying this to Middlebush Cemetery, Wappingers Falls, Dutchess Co, NY (see Findagrave memorial #51624003). A photo provided later apparently verifies this burial location.
Though Thummel shows the date above, a photo of a quite weathered stone in the Middlebush Cemetery shows fairly clearly 83 years. Though the months have been worn off, the days in this man's age is quite possibly 26. Calculating from 83-6-26 yields the birth date given by Thummel as August 20, 1757.
- Removed To "Crump Pond, Westchester Co," (NY) with Parents. (once again, Thummel probably means Crompond, Westchester, NY)
- Pension record; Volunteered October 1, 1775; served at various times in N.Y. Troops under Capts Samuel and Nathaniel Delavan, Height, George Lane; Cols Samuel Drake, Thomas Thomas and Hopkins. Was in several skirmishes and served as a minuteman; Total service 14 1/2 months; granted pension August 12, 1832. Resided during service at N. Salem, Westchester Co, NY
- 1809 Removed to Fishkill where he died; widow removed to Wayne Co, 1843.
- Thummel lists marriage to Martha NEWMAN, daughter of Jonathan and Patience (WESTCOTT) NEWMAN on 29 March 1781.
- Thummel lists Children of this union: Betsey; Sally; Isaac; Rachel; Reynolds Newman; Abigail; Franklin.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
