Biography

Sarah was born in Christ Chuch Parish Middlesex, Virginia Colony on 25 July 1759.[1] She was the daughter of Charles Finch and Joyce Moss Finch.

The family relocated to Wilkes County, Georgia in about 1784. Charles received a land grant on Cloud Creek. He signed an oath on April 11, 1784 stating that he hath Wife Eight Children and seven Negroes and that he has never had lands granted to him in this State [2] He was granted 96 acres on Cloud Creek in Wilkes County, Georgia. [3]

Sarah married William Anderson in about 1790 in Wilkes County. Their first child Araham Marshal Anderson was born in about 1791. They had five more children.

Sarah's father died in about 1895. Heirs to his estate were mentioned as Division of estate of Charles Finch, Dec'd In re: William Finch, Susannah, Betsy and Burdick Finch, Thomas Willingham and Judah his wife of Oglethorpe, Co., Starke Saunders and Nancy his wife, James Comer and Fanny his wife of Hancock Co. and Charles Finch; William Anderson and Sarah his wife of Wilkes Co. [4]

The estate sale for the estate of Charles Finch was held in February 1803. It shows that Will Anderson bought one negro woman for $301.[5]

Sarah must have passed away in 1805 soon after the birth of her sixth child. William was born in about 1805. William remarried on March 3, 1806. [6]

A newspaper biography of William M. Anderson written by his daughter Ann Mariah Anderson Gibson was published in The Constitution, Atlanta, Georgia; August 25, 1901, She states that "After the war was over he emigrated to Wilkes county, Georgia. There he married Sarah Finch, his first wife. Six children were the issue of this union, five sons and one daughter. He lost his first wife some time in the latter part of the eighteenth century. He then moved from Wilkes County to Baldwin county, Georgia." [7]
