James Finley was born in Scotland.

James Finley was baptized October 25, 1583, at St. Andrew's Church, Balchristie, Fife, Scotland; died at Inchervie, Fife, Scotland between December 23, 1619, the date of his will, and April 1620, the date of probate. Some online trees have his dod about 1620. His name is mentioned in different rentals between 1596 and 1616. He married in St. Andrew's Church, July 14, 1603, Barbara Huntar, daughter of William and Grizelda (Traill) Huntar, of Newton Rires. The eldest son of James and Barbara (Huntar) Findley was: Thomas Finley, married Agnes Goodlate.[1]

While this is not exactly the same as the entry in “The Clan Finley”, there is enough there to determine that the record in scotlandspeople.gov.uk and the record in “The Clan Finley” refer to the same person, ie. James Finlay (1583 - 1620).
