Neeltje was baptized on 27 March 1696 in the Reformed Dutch Church of New York, recorded as the child of Jan Fini and Sara Hardenberg. Witnesses were Leendert Leurszen and Anna Cuijlers.[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Nelly by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Nelly:
Finey-4 and Fini-14 appear to represent the same person because: The Dutch name Neeltje, the English name Eleanor, and the diminutive forms Nelly and Nellie are variants of the same name. I think that John Finey/Fini/Finney and Sara Hardenberg had only one daughter by this name (the Neeltje baptized in 1696) and that she was the girl who married Samuel Schoonmaker in 1718, when she was about 22 years old. I don't know why William Hoffman thought there was another, possibly older, daughter named Eleanor who married Schoonmaker (see the notes at John Finney (abt.1670-) about Hoffman's list of the children), but Neeltje was the oldest recorded daughter and it would not be surprising to see a child baptized as Neeltje recorded at marriage as Eleanor.
There are now three profiles for Eleanor/Neeltje/Nelly/etc. I propose to merge them all into Fini-14, which now has names and birth data based on the primary records.
