James fought during the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in the Sixth Regiment of the South Carolina Continental Army on 17 March 1776, and served until 1777. On 15 February 1779, he enlisted in the Third Regiment under Capt. Joseph Warley. His enlistment expired on 1 June 1781. He also served in the militia as well.[5][6][1][2][3]
James died in 1810 in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee, United States.[1][2][3]
