Biography

Charles was born in 1926 in New York, probably in Schenectady, the son of Charles F. Fischer and Beatrice xx. He grew up there and graduated from Schenectady High School in about 1944. After serving in the Navy Air Force during WWII, he went to college at Ryder's College. He started working at General Electric in Schenectady, where he met Shirley M. Saar. They married on May 31,1952 at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Eden. They settled back in the Schenectady, NY area, and raised two children there. He made a career as an insurance salesman. He passed away in 2011. His widow resides in Clifton Park, NY.

He was born on December 16, 1926 in Schenectady, and graduated from Nott Terrace High School. Mr. Fischer attended Rider College and was a WWII Navy veteran. He had a successful 30 year career as an insurance agent with Nationwide Insurance in Scotia. Mr. Fischer enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating as well as attending his grandson's various sporting activities, particularly baseball. He was a member of the Glenville Fish & Game Club. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Canada with his wife and friends. In addition to his lovely wife of 59 years, Shirley Saar Fischer, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa (John) Fischer Casto of Charleston, WV; son, Eric (Mary) of Charlton; grandsons, David (junior at UConn) and Michael (freshman at Columbia University); sister, Beatrice (Robert) Finke Mitchell of Locust Grove, VA; dear friend, Kathy (Bruce) Gower Logan of Lake George, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Beatrice Fischer, Schenectady. A memorial service will be held at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave., Scotia, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29. A calling hour will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , Pine West Plaza, Building 4, Suite 405, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205 or to a charity of your choice."
