Jonathan Fish, born in 1723 at Groton, Connecticut, was the fourth child of Martha Williams & Moses Fish.

He was commissioned a Captain under the Colonial Government, Oct. 23, 1769; he later served in the American Revolutionary War.

Jonathan Fish married first, 03 December 1747, Abigail Fish, at Groton, Connecticut. They had at least 9 children:

  5. Lydia Fish, b. Mar. 20, 1761; m. Ebenezer7 Fish (Samuel6, Samuel5, John4), and had (1757) Jemima, who m. Capt. Elihu Spicer.
  6. George Fish, b. Mar. 20, 1763; d. Jan. 24, 1847, age 84; m. Sarah Hinckley, Jan. 20, 1785.
  7. Eunice Fish, b. July 18, 1765; m. David Ashcraft, June 24, 1811.
  8. Jemima Fish, b. Oct, 31, 1767; m. Joshua Morgan, Jr., about 1787.
  9. Jonathan Fish, b. June 16, 1770.

According to Fish and Denison families' genealogy records, Jonathan Fish married second, Phebe (Denison) Avery (1741-1818), widow of Ebenezer Avery (he was killed at the Ft. Griswold massacre). The date of their marriage is uncertain; their online memorial sites state that they were married in 1782, however Jonathan's first wife lived until 1790. Probative work is encouraged.

Jonathan Fish died 26 December 1796 at Groton, Connecticut. His grave is in Old Packer Burying Ground, Burrows Cemetery, Groton, Connecticut [1].
