Biography

John was a Friend (Quaker)

John Fish was born about 1655 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He was the fifth child of Thomas Fish and Mary (maiden surname unknown) Fish [1].

Note: A previously attached spouse, Grizzell Strange, has been detached from this profile, as she was not John's wife. She was the spouse of John's brother, Thomas Fish.

Per the Fish genealogy, this John Fish married Joanna (maiden surname not identified). Per the caption of an online memorial site representing this John Fish, her surname(s) may have been Knowles and/or Munson [2], however neither is certain.

His online memorial site represents that this John Fish died before 18 Mar 1742 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay Colony , with burial details unknown (no grave marker is depicted). The caption of this memorial page gives additional information which may provide traces to their children:

John Fish was disowned by the Dartmouth monthly meeting for allowing his daughter to marry out of the society of friends.[6] The condemnation is as follows:[6]
