McCall's Early History of Bedale in the North Riding has more data. There was a series of Brians and Alans. The missing generations help clear up the dating problem.

The question is can we be sure "Briennus filius Alani", brother of Conan of Brittany, the same person as Brian of Bedale?

Apparently Count Alan did have an illegitimate son called Brian (not by Bertha), but he is no longer thought to be Brian of Bedale.

According to the Millenium file Brian was born in 1145. Even so, he lived a very long time for that era in time.

In the five pages that Douglas Richardson devotes to Richard Arundel, his wives and children, I can find no hint of any unknown daughters. Richard was one of the most powerful men in the kingdom, and his wives were the daughters of equally powerful men. Why would he have unknown offspring?

There is no source for this profile, and if proof cannot be shown for the existence of this unknown daughter, the profile should be removed. There is no spouse and no descendants, so this would have virtually zero impact on the tree.

Please respond and help us improve WikiTree.

Thank you,
