Biography

John Fitz Roger, third son of Henry Fitz Roger, Knt., and Elizabeth de Holand, was born between 1345 and 1352.[1] John held lands in Chewton, Somerset; West Kington, Wiltshire, and Mapperton, Dorset.[1]

John married before 26 April 1369 to Alice ____.[1] They had one daughter:

  • Elizabeth, heiress, born 15 August 1370, died 15 April 1414, married first to Sir John Bonville (d.1396) and second to Richard Stukeley (or Stucle, Steuecle, Styuecle), Gent.[1]

John died between 1370 and 1372.[1] His widow married four more times, first to Sir Edmund de Clyvedon (no issue), second to Sir Ralph Carminow (one daughter), third to Sir John Rodney (or Rodeney) (no issue) and finally to William Bonville (or Bonvyle, Bonevyle) (no issue). Alice died 27 March 1426 and was buried beside her fifth husband.[1]

John FitzRoger is descendant of Magna Carta Surety Baron William Malet in a badged Richardson-documented trail to Gateway Ancestor John Baynard (Magna Carta Ancestry, vol. I, pages 126-128). This profile is also in a badged trail to surety baron Saher de Quincy. See the Magna Carta Trails on John Baynard's profile to view the profiles in these trails.
John FitzRoger is likely a descendant of Magna Carta surety baron William Malet in a trail to Gateway Ancestor George Reade. This trail was reviewed by the Magna Carta Project in 2015, but it needs further development before it can be badged. See the trail HERE.
See Base Camp for more information about identified Magna Carta trails and their status. See the project's glossary for project-specific terms, such as a "badged trail".
