From ancestry. com/ BernitaYoung originally shared this on 31 Aug 2009 Between the 1850 and 1860 census in Texas something happened to Sarah Fletcher's parents, James and Elizabeth Fletcher. Family stories abound on this subject. Some of the Fletcher family descendants' family histories say that they were killed by one of the wild Indian tribes living in the area at the time. Some say this was in Navarro County, some say this was in Parker County and others say it happened on the Red River. Most of the children were at school at the time of the massacre. There are some researchers that say that Sarah and her little brother, James, were not at school and were captured by the Indians. At some point, Sarah was rescued and raised by her aunt and uncle, Isaac & Sarah (Fletcher) Meek. Her younger brother, James, was not rescued and was raised by or killed by the Indians. Whatever the truth is may never be known; however, it is a fact that, James and Elizabeth Fletcher are not to be found on the 1860 census and their children are scattered about living with other family members.
