Birth

Samuel Fletcher was born about 1652. He was christened 1 Feb 1656 when he was four years old.^[2][3] NOTE There is an assumption that this is the Samuel born to William and Lydia. It seems reasonable, but I don't believe there is a good source showing Lydia as his mother. Note that the Fletcher Family History shows the birthdate of the son Samuel of William and Lydia as 1664. That date is almost certainly incorrect, being the birthdate of the Samuel born to Samuel and Margaret (see Note at Samuel Fletcher (1664 - 1705) )

Note: Samuel fletcher of Chelmsford wrote a will on 18 March 1713. The will

was brought to the Middlesex County, Massachusetts probate court on 18 December 1723 by his widow, Elizabeth. The will was not allowed on 20 June 1726 (Middlesex County [MA] Probate Court Packet #7,920).

The will: mentions wife Elizabeth, children Samuel Fletcher, Mary Wheeler, Sarah Fletcher, Susanna Fletcher, Isaac Fletcher, Hannah Wright, Elizabeth Butterfield, Lydia Adams, and William Fletcher (executor), and witnesses Jonathan Barrit, Joshua Fletcher, and Joseph Fletcher.

The probate file refers to those present at the hearings: Jonathan Wheeler who had married Samuel's daughter Mary, Ebenezer Wright,

Sira Butterfield, Sarah Fletcher, Pelatiah Adams, Joseph Chamberlain, Isaac Fletcher, William Fletcher, Samuel Fletcher, and the witnesses.

NOTE

There were at least three Samuel Fletchers in the Chelmsford area in the late 1600's. They were first cousins of the sons of Robert Fletcher: one born to William Fletcher and Lydia Bates, one born to his brother Francis and Elizabeth Wheeler, and one born to brother Samuel and Margaret Hailstone. It is easy to get them confused, and likely has happened in records in the past.
