Biography

Layman Leslie Flinn, 79, of Route 1, Belleville, departed this life at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital on May 13, 2004. He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Belleville, a son of the late Albert and Nellie (Hupp) Flinn. He retired from Ames in 1981 with 43 years service. Layman loved the outdoors, hunting his dogs and tending to his farm, until in later years when his health would not allow it. Layman was a member of the Hopewell Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Agnes M. Harper Flinn; two sons, Layman E. Flinn and Charles E. Flinn and his wife, Carolyn, all of Belleville; three daughters, Mary R. Soales and her husband, Danny, of Greenfield, Ohio, Donna J. Miller and her husband, Steve, of Lubeck and Lois A. Sams and her husband, Jim, of Belleville; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five brothers, Edward Leroy Flinn of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Shirley Eugene Flinn of West LaFayette, Ohio, Charles Ray Flinn of Belleville, Ira Erchell Flinn of Mineral City, Ohio, and Carl Kenneth Flinn of Parkersburg; and four sisters, Hazel Iona Smith of Washington, W.Va., Alice Virginia Cole of Parkersburg, Eleanor Marie Criner of Venus, Fla., and Nettie Louise Gingrich of Auburn, Ind. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Lemoine Flinn; and three sisters, Francis Elizabeth Hornbeck, Delores Irene Hornbeck and an infant sister, Mary Anna Flinn. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Ministers sic Dave Newberry; officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Home Cemetery, Belleville. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Parkersburg Sentinel
