Family Data Collection - Births, database with images, Ancestry.com (2001) (http://www.ancestry.com: accessed 10 Apr 2019); Name: Henry Helm Floyd; Father: Henry Floyd; Mother: Nancy Ann Helm; Birth: 21 Sep 1761 in Pineton, Prince William Co., VA

Henry Helm Floyd enlisted in the War of the American Revolution from Fauquier County, Virginia, in the spring of 1781, when 19 years of age, as a private under Captain Joseph O'Bannon and Colonel Churchill; he reenlisted in the fall of 1781 under the command of William Grigsby and Colonel Edmunds under the command of General Stevens, and served until the surrender of Cornwallis.[4]

In the fall of 1804, Henry moved with his parents, his siblings, and their families to Henderson County, Kentucky. They traveled by flatboat down the Ohio River until they reached Uniontown, where his mother, Nancy Helm Floyd, died of pneumonia. (December 24, 1804). She was buried on a high hill overlooking the river, known as Sand Hill, on Christmas Eve 1804. Nancy is reportedly the first white woman to be buried in what is now Union County, and the first person buried in the oldest graveyard in the county.

By 1810, the Floyd family settled peacefully in their home in Henderson, Kentucky. [5]

Henry Helm Floyd served as a lieutenant under George Rogers Clark, in the conquest of the northwest, and during the War of 1812, he was a colonel with General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. [6]

When the 1820 census was taken, Henry Helm Floyd was living in Morganfield, Kentucky, along with his wife, Frances, and their eight children, (Henry Crosby, Nancy Ann, Elizabeth Crosby, Lucy Crosby, John Crosby, Nathaniel Crosby, Charlotte Crosby, and Lucretia Crosby Floyd). [7]

The 1830 Census record is not very specific, [8] but I know the Floyd's are still living in Union County, Kentucky.

Both Henry Helm Floyd and his father, Henry, saw service in the American Revolution and both applied for pensions with Henry H. Floyd Va. No. S31030 and Henry Floyd Va. No. R14982 1/2 (VA Half-Pay.). Henry Helm Floyd made his application for pension on October 21, 1833 from Union County, Kentucky. Henry starting receiving United States Revolutionary War Pension Payments twice a year starting 04 Mar 1831. [9]

Henry made gift deeds of parcels of land on Casey's Creek for each of his sons: Henry Crosby Floyd 14 May 1840, Nathaniel Crosby Floyd 14 May 1840, John Crosby Floyd 19 June 1841. In 1840 he was living in Union, Kentucky with Francis Ann. [10]

His wife Frances Ann died 27 Sep 1841, at the age of 67. Henry died 6 Sep 1850, in Waverly, Kentucky, having lived a long life of 88 years.

Henry Helm Floyd died 8 Sep 1850 and was buried in the family cemetery on the old Floyd farm near Waverly. A cedar tree planted by his son, Henry Crosby Floyd, marked his grave. [11] Years later, during a windstorm, the cedar tree was blown down, and Colonel Hansford L. Threlkeld, descended from the daughter, Elizabeth Crosby Floyd, gave the chapter (DAR Site, Kentucky Henry Helm Chapter), named in her father's honor, a beautiful silver-bound gavel, appropriately inscribed, made from the cedar tree which had marked Henry Helm Floyd's grave. The city of Louisville, Kentucky is built on a portion of the land grant given to him for his service. 18 Nov 1850 was the date for the probate of Henry's will.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Henry by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Henry:
