Will of Josiah Floyd

In the name of God Amen. I Josiah Floyd of the county of Brunswick and parish of Meherin being sick and weak of body but of perfect sound and disposing mind, knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in the manner and form following. My soul I give to God who gave it hoping for Salvation through the merits of my Savior Christ and in so to the worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with I do give them as followeth,

In Primis: that all my just and full debts be first paid, and my body decently interred according to the discretion of my executors.

2ndly I give and bequeath unto my son Zachariah Floyd the lands whereon I now live containing three hundred and ninety eight acres, a negroe fellow Will, negroe fellow Jerry, a negroe woman Frank, a negroe woman Eady a negroe boy Randolph a negroe Ned, a negroe girl Pugg, a negroe girl Fanny a negroe boy Robin to him and his heirs forever, likewise all my stock of hogs, twenty head of cattle twenty head of sheep likewise all my corn, tobacco, wheat, and oats & fodder one dutch oven, loom, tea kettle, coffee pot, desk with all the rest of my kitchen and household furniture of all kinds also all my horses, and all kinds of tools and utensels, belong to the plantation to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my Grandson Morris Floyd a woman named Nancy, to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Floyd my two negroe fellows James & Carter to him and his heirs.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Drury Floyd my negroe boy Isaac to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my Grandson Isiah Floyd, one negroe named Hammon to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my Grandaughter Phebey Floyd daughter of my son Charles Floyd, a negroe girl named Patience to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my son in-law Benjamin Hicks a negroe woman namely Ursey & her increase to him and his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Potello, a negroe boy named Ejsic?, a negroe girl Judah, a woman named Lucy, a negroe boy named Burril th her and her heirs.

Item: I give unto my grandaughter Elizabeth Floyd daughter of my son Charles Floyd, on negroe girl named Faithey to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my daughter Mary Bracey, twenty shillings currant money.

Lastly I do hereby appoint my sons Charles and Zachariah Floyd Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all wills by me formerly made and declaring this to be my last will in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal this 21st day of December A.D one thousand seven hundred and ninety.
