I was born at Ole Miss, while my father finished his engineering degree after the Korean War. He was a Marine Corps fighter pilot during WW2 and Korea. We lived in married student housing, in fairly tight quarters for a family of 7. We moved to the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas and lived there for 10 years. I graduated high school in Mississippi and from the University of Mississippi after my own military service.
I'm a U.S. Army veteran, having been a Russian linguist in military intelligence during the last years of the Cold War. I'm interested in military intelligence history, especially the Cold War years. But I'm also interested in aviation history, as it relates to all the undocumented and unfound crashes of military aircraft in California during WW2 and the Korean War.
My family roots seem to be in Wales, Ireland, Scotland, long ago Scandinavia, and Western Europe. One sister and my brother had DNA done and the results were quite interesting. My sisters all do genealogy and they're quite good at it. I'm just starting out. My strategy so far has been to try to do branches of the family that they haven't done yet and I'm discovering those ancestors aren't easy to find and prove. My DNA has been tested but the results aren't in yet.
The biggest problem I'm having is the Floyd/Lloyd/Llwyd/Fludd name variation issue (just to name the most obvious variations). I really want to jump the pond.
