Some think Atha's father is Samuel Floyd, that first showed up on the 1830 Census in Simpson County, Mississippi, but Atha married John H. Curtis in 1839 in the state of Georgia, Samuel was already in Mississippi in 1830, so in the 1840 Census John and Atha Curtis were living next house to Samuel Floyd. * After much searching and thought, I am deleting Samuel Floyd and Ava Jane Nichols as Atha's parents for the below listed reasons.
1. 1850 census shows all of Samuel Floyd's children were born in Mississippi. The 1850 Census of John Curtis shows Atha Floyd Curtis was born in South Carolina and Georgia marriage records show that she married John Curtis in the state of Georgia in 1839, so sounds logical that her Floyd parents were born in South Carolina and moved to the state of Georgia. Most likely she was living with her parents at the time she married.
2. Atha Floyd Curtis was too old to be daughter of that Samuel and Ava Jane.
3. I saw a familytree sight on ancestry that stated there was another Samuel Floyd born about the same time that died and did not come to Mississippi. Will try and get the lady's name.
