Biography

Myles Flynn, aged 94, was born at Riverton August 1, 1865, and passed away July 28, 1959, at a Leesburg, Virginia, hospital. Funeral services were held at the Durbin Methodist Church, of which he was a member, at 11 a.m. and at the Riverton Methodist Church last Friday. The officiating minister was the Rev. R. B. Jarret who was assisted by the Rev. V. C. Decker at Riverton. Interment was made in the Huffman cemetery near Riverton. He was the son of Abraham and Melvina [sic] Ketterman Flynn and was the last survivor of a family of eleven children. He married Della Whitecotton, and to this union were born two sons and two daughters:Luther, of Herndon, Va., Frona (Mrs. J. L. Williams), Durbin and Clarence Edward and Nettie who preceded him in death. His first wife died early in life and he later married Virginia Harper. To this union were born two sons and a daughter, Otis, of Williamsport, Pa., Freddie (Mrs. Sam Thompson), Riverton, and Gary, who preceded him in death. After a few years his second wife died and he later married Mrs. Alice Phares. To this union was born a daughter, Jessie (Mrs. Clark Woddell [sic]), Bradford, Pa. His third wife preceded him in death in 1954, after a marriage of 46 years. He is survived by the following step-children: Gary Phares, Millville, Pa., Fay Phares, Charlottesville, Va., Mrs. Emma Arbogast, Newport, Pa., Mrs. Kate Herndon, Charlottesville, Va., Mrs. Mary Hinkle, Cochranton, Pa. and Mrs. Martha Mullenax, Job. Also surviving are 21 Grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. His early life was spent in Pendleton County but moved to Pocahontas County some fifty years ago. He was a farmer and also worked in the lumber business.He had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Frona Williams at Durbin. Pendleton Times--- August 6, 1959.
