<tpphoto><id>98857</id><id>98860</id></tpphoto>Sebastian Hoover was born in Germany about 1723 and traveled as a teenager to America. He married Catherine Mueller February 7, 1744. Sebastian and Catherine were married at Tulpehocken, Berks County, Pennsylvania at Reed

s Church. Two years earlier, on November 28, 1742, Maria Margartha Huber married Peter Schmidt, also in Tulpehocken. Maria May have been Sebastian s sister. Peter and Maria moved to the Pendleton County area with Sebastian and Catherina in the late 1740s or early 1750s. They lived close to each other and named sons after each other. Sebastian, along with Henry Stone, Gabriel Kyle, Henry Peninger, Woolrick Conrad and Mack Swadley, received Certificates for Naturalization in Augusta County, Virginia, Order Book VII, Page 97. Possible nicknames are used for Sebastian Hoover, Postle, for one, in many official records; i.e. land patent and survey records list him with either name. Sebastian s children are identified by a christening for John William in a church in Pennsylvania; probated will of Sebastian, Jr. in Pendleton County, West Virginia. The will lists his father as heir. Jacob and Thomas are listed as heirs on the Pendleton County Survey of property left by Sebastian Hoover Sr.; listing of George, Jacob, Lawrence, Michael, Peter, and Sebastian Hoover; all together on the 1790 Tax Form for the "South Fork" and the lower half of the "South Branch." Since Sebastian Hoover Jr. died in 1780, we can assume that this Sebastian was the father of them all. Other Information, including the name of his daughter, Catherine, was furnished by Jeff Carr, a genealogist living in Virginia. Sebastian Hoover, Henry Stone and Henry Penninger were held on bond to appear before the grand jury to answer the charge of "throwing disgraceful reflections upon congress and of speaking words lending to deprecicate the Continental currency." This was taken from the Rockingham County Court records dated March 23, 1779 ALIV 0
