Biography

Benjamin Follett, born about 1676 in Salem, Massachusetts, was the son of Robert Follett and his wife Persis Black Follett. There is no birth record for Benjamin. His parents lived in Salem and his siblings were born 1657-1674 at two to three year intervals. The last five including Benjamin were baptized in Salem 10 Sept 1687.[1]

Ben[jamin] Follit married Patience Doutee (sometimes spelled Doulee or Doughty) 13 March 1706/7 in Salem.[2]

The family moved to Windham, Connecticut, about 1709. His father Robert gave 130 acres of land "arable pasture and meadow ground", his farm and personal property to Benjamin and his brother Isaac. 4 Aug 1704. Robert Follett of Salem, Shoreman, for love and affection and other considerations gave to his sons Isaac and Benjamin Follett, to share equally, his homestead of about 130 acres and his livestock. Signed 3 Aug 1704.[3]

Ten acres of this land was sold in 1705. 1 Aug 1705 Isaac and Benjamim Follett, both of Salem, husbandman, for £22 10s sold to Israel Shaw of Salem 10 Acres of upland and swamp. Signed 31 July 1705.[4]

16 Oct 1706 Benjamin Follett of Salem, husbandman, for £19 sold to John Traske Junr of Salem, 7 acres.[5]

On November 4, 1708, and after the deaths of Robert Follett and his mother, Benjamin Follett, as a "husbandman", and Patience his wife, sold for 131 pounds, and conveyed all his remaining interest in this 130 acres, given him and Isaac by their father. In the deed Benjamin Follett expressly retained the right to remain in the house and have firewood until the next May 1st, 1709.[6]

It is presumably after this date that Benjamin, Patience and their two youngest children moved to Windham.

Benjamin passed in about 1752.

"Twenty Seventh day of November Anno Domini one Thousand Seven Hundred. and fifty I Benjamin folet of windham In the County of Windham and Colony of Connecticut In Newengland being week In body butt of Sound mind and memory ... all my just debts and funeral charges being paid ... to Abigal my Dearly beloved wife ... to my Three sons Benja folet Hezekiah folet & Joseph folet ... to my daughter Elisebeth the wife of Israel Dimmick of said Windham ... my daughter Abigail the wife of Arthur Biben Jun of said windham ... to my daughter Susana the wife of Isaac Sawyer of Hebron ... to my daughter Mary the wife of Ezra Kingsley of said Windham ... to my daughter Hannah ye wife of Joshua Read of said Windham ..." He named his sons as executors. He mentioned his dwelling house, barn, land and a Corn mill. His will for probate was filed in Windham, Connecticut on May 4, 1752. His inventory of May 2 1752 was valued at £487. 9. 1[7]

His wife has a gravestone in the Windham Center Cemetery, Windham, Connecticut,[8] and a gravestone for him was seen there in 1826.[9]
