In 1538, when the monasteries were dissolved by Henry VIII, the site and manor of the Priory of Augustus Canons in Dodford were granted to Sir John Dudley. Andrew Dudley then sold the chief mansion house or messuage at Dodford to John Ffownes in 1539. Thus, John Ffownes became one of the principal land owners at Dodford.
John Ffownes was one of the school governors named in the Marion Charter. The Bromesgrove School records mention John Ffownes and William Ffones. John was mentioned in 1556 as one six of the “more discreet and approved inhabitants of the town who were appointed to look after the Bromesgrove school.”
Merged profile had the following source http://www.fones.org/htmlNE/d0000/g0000025.html#I71, but it is unclear who to follow to find this particular individual since everyone on the page was born ca 1800's and 1900's. Additionally someone had said the source was weak as it had no citations on it. The profile also had the mother as Unknown Telham. A merge should probably be initiated once the proper surname is determined. In the merge I used most information from Fones-56 since it had a better source, a book entitled The Fones Family.
