Biography

Henry and family are found in Greene Township of Franklin Co., PA in the 1810 census. In the home were 2 Males - Under 10 (1800-1810) (Samuel & John); 1 Male - 26 thru 44 (1766-1784) (Henry); 1 Female - 16 thru 25 (1785-1894) (Marie Elizabeth). On the same page of the census are Abraham Forney, Tobias Ritter Sr. & Jr.[1] The Septenial Census of 1814 shows Henry is a Shoemaker still living in Greene Township.[2] There is a Peter Furney, laborer, shown on the previous page. As a side note, he wasn't the only one with the same name that was a shoemaker. That Henry's family settled in Columbiana County, OH. The 1820 census shows the family still in PA, now in Hamilton Township, Franklin County. Hamilton adjoins Greene Township so they may still be in the same home. The family fits, showing 3 Males - Under 10 (1810-1820) (Henry, Jacob, David); 2 Males - 10 thru 15 (1805-1810) (Samuel & John); 1 Male - 26 thru 44 (1776-1794) (Henry engaged in Manufactuer); 3 Females - Under 10 (1810-1820) (Julia Ann, Elizabeth & ?, a gap in births shows there may have been a child that died in infancy); 1 Female - 26 thru 44 (1776-1794) (Marie Elizabeth).[3]

Migration to Ohio

Care must be taken to avoid confusing this Forney family with those that came from York county, PA and settled in Columbiana County, OH. Henry brought his family to Ohio and settled in Osnaburg Township, Stark County, Ohio, which is Township No. 18 within Range 7. They were there by 1829, paying taxes, but no property listed. He was taxed on 2 horses valued at $80 and 1 cow valued at $8.[4] They are shown in the 1830 census with males: 1 10-15, 1 15-20, 1 20-30, 1 40-50 (Henry); females: 1 under 5, 1 5-10, 1 10-15, 1 15-20, 1 40-50 (Maria Elizabeth) and one free colored male of 10 and under 24 (b. 1806-1819).[5] All children have been born by this date. The daughters are accounted for but there are only 3 sons listed instead of 5. The children don't fit as well in this census and the last child needs to be identified. Census records for son Jacob as an adult have him and his children listed as Mulatto with wife Elizabeth Charlie listed as white or left blank as was done for the majority. Jacob's age fits with the age of the person in the "free colored" section. The 1810 census doesn't have anyone listed in the "All others" column and the same is true for the "free colored" column in the 1820 census. At this time the ages of the children should have been: Samuel-24, John-21, Henry-19, Jacob ~16, Julia Ann-15, Marie Elizabeth ~14, David-11, Nancy Elizabeth ~4, Mary Ruth-2.

By the time the taxes were assessed in 1832, he didn't have his horses but had 3 head of cattle. [6] The 1840 census shows only one daughter left in the home. Henry Jr and Jacob are close by.[7]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Henry by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Henry:

I have that Jacob Forney (1755-1810) was Henry's father and not Henry Forney, what is the citation for Henry being his father?

Is there a Jacob Forney profile to compare? Please direct your question to Connie Mack as most of the details have been added to the profile. Due to the confusion of this family I am not the best source.

Forney-138 and Forney-120 appear to represent the same person because: Same name. Same birth information. Same spouse who was a duplicate as well.

If you agree that these are duplicates, please complete the merge.

Thank you.
