Margaret Forsyth was born about 1797 in the Bahama Islands to Loyalists Alexander Forsyth and Flora McQueen Forsyth.
She married Robert Claxton Butler, son of George Butler and Esther Clark Claxton Butler, 30 April 1829 in Nassau, Bahamas. Their marriage was witnessed by George Camplejohn and Benjamin C Claxton. She was his fourth wife. The couple had known children - Robert Butler, Harriet Carmichael Butler, and Flora McQueen Butler.
Margaret Butler and her sister, Mary Isabella Forsyth, jointly owned nine slaves. They were registered in the 1831 Bahamas Slave Registration.
Margaret Forsyth Butler received a bequest from her uncle, Neil McQueen, in his will, proved 1838 in Nassau.
Margaret Forsyth Butler died in 1880 in Nassau, Bahamas at 83 years of age. At her death, she left her estate to daughter Harriet Carmichael Butler. She also mentioned her son, Robert Butler, and granddaughter, Minette Stafford Butler.
