Biography

John was born in 1780 in Fredericksburg, VA, the son of Robert and Fanny (Johnson) Houston Forsyth. John Forsyth was educated at Princeton, graduating in 1799. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1802. That same year he married Clarissa Meigs, eldest daughter of Josiah Meigs, president of the University of Georgia. John and Clarissa established a home near Augusta, GA. He had a distinguished political career, serving as representative, U.S. senator, governor of Georgia, minister to Spain, and U.S. secretary of state.

Death

John Forsyth passed away in 1841 in Washington, D.C. [3][4] His probate in Muscogee Co, GA states that he died intestate.[5] John Forsyth had estate in Muscogee and Twiggs Co, GA[6]

    John Forsyth, a brilliant Statesman who served with distinction, his associations with allied family is a must study, I refer to the events of 1837 and 1838,

    Canadians burning Steamboat Caroline 1837 and the aftermath.

    UNKNOWN-156722 and Forsyth-528 appear to represent the same person because: Clara (Clarissa) Meigs married John Forsyth, who was a U.S. Senator, Minister to Spain, Secretary of State, and governor of Georgia.
