Biography

Willis was born in 1838 in Pike County, Mississippi where he lived, close to his parents, family and friends his whole life. He was the son of Calvin Fortenberry and Narcissa Simmons. He passed away in 1911. ^[1]

MILITARY

Willis Jackson Fortenberry served in the Confederate Army as a Private during the War of Northern Aggression. He served in the Mississippi Infantry, 7th Regiment, Company F. During his time in, one of the letters he received from home came from his uncle, Gasuaway "Gazzie" Chapman Fortenberry who had written to tell Willis about other family members, cousins and friends who had also gone to war.

Family life

Willis Jackson Fortenberry married Elizabeth Rebecca Pigott 19 December 1866. Elizabeth Pigott was the daughter of Thomas Pigott (1804 - 1866) and Martha Charlotte Fortenberry (1809 - 1846). Martha was a daughter of Isaac Fortenberry and Bethany Cordelia Magee.
