He married Angélique Poulin (1808-1879) on November 5, 1877 in Saint-François-d'Assise, Beauceville, QUEBEC, CANADA. [3] According to the act, the consanguinity is 2nd to 3rd degree between Angelique and Joseph.[3]

He died on May 2, 1881 in Saint-Ephrem-de-Beauce, QUEBEC, CANADA at the age of 68, 8 months. He was buried on May 5, 1881 in Saint-Victor-de-Tring, Saint-Victor, QUEBEC, CANADA. [4] He is son of Jean Fortin and Angélique Dupuis Gilbert.
