Biography

MARY FOSTER,[1] b. 22 Mar 1749/50 and baptized at Boxford 15 Mar 1750[2] daughter of Joshua Foster and Mary Barker; d. at Boxford, 7 Aug 1785;[3] m. by about 1775 (although marriage first forbidden by father),[4] BRADSTREET TYLER,[5] b. at Boxford, 27 Aug 1745 son of Job and Elizabeth (Parker) Tyler; Bradstreet d. at Boxford, 5 Apr 1842. Bradstreet married second Eunice Little Adams on 18 Sep 1788 and married third Mrs. Mary Greenough Bacon on 27 Dec 1798.

Mary and Bradstreet resided in Boxford, and after Mary’s early death Bradstreet had two further marriages. Bradstreet was chosen deacon of Second Church at Boxford on 20 March 1806 and served until 13 April 1814 when he resigned and was succeeded by his son-in-law John Day. Bradstreet was selectman in 1780.[6]

In his will written 9 November 1820 (probate 19 April 1842), Bradstreet Tyler bequeathed to daughter Mary day wife of Deacon John Day a lot of pasture in Boxford known as the “Brown lot” of about ten acres to be hers forever. Granddaughter Mary Tyler daughter of son Joshua deceased receives $600. Rev. Doct. Peter Eaton receives $100. Son John Tyler, Jr. receives a lot of pasture and meadow in Boxford of about twenty acres. Sons John Tyler, Jr. and Bradstreet Tyler, Jr. receive the remainder of the estate to equally divide. “With a view to prevent any futer dispute between my two sons above named – if my son John Tyler, Jr. above named, should attempt to recover any thing out of my estate by law, more than I have given him in this my will, it is my will that my son Bradstreet Tyler, Jr. shall receive out of the legacy I have given him just as much as he may recover by law – And, if my son Bradstreet Tyler, Jr. should attempt to recover any thing out of my estate by law, more than I have given him, in this my will – it is my will that that my son John Tyler, Jr. aforesaid shall receive out of the legacy I have given to my son Bradstreet Tyler just so much as he may recover by law.” Sons John and Bradstreet are equally responsible for the debts and legacies and are named joint executors.[7]

On 22 March 1849, John Tyler and Bradstreet Tyler, for the payment of one dollar, quitclaimed to each other any interest in the estate property of the other.[8]

Son John Tyler left no widow or children. The heirs of his estate were nieces and nephews: Joshua T. Day and John Day of Boxford, nephews; Eunice Chadwick widow of Boxford, niece; Mary F. Ross widow of Boxford, niece; Harriet D. Brown widow of North Andover, niece; and Elisabeth Kimball of Bradford wife of Albert Kimball, niece.[9]

Mary and Bradstreet were parents of three children born at Boxford. Bradstreet had a son Bradstreet with his second wife Eunice Little.
