Biography

James Foster is buried at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Dawson County, Georgia.[1]

He married Kizzia Davis in 1829; they lived on the Lumpkin/Dawson County, Georgia line until their deaths; probate was in Lumpkin County. The homeplace is presently in Lumpkin County.[2] James' brother Isaac Foster (1809-1887) married Kizziah's sister Lucinda R. (Davis) Foster (1810-1887). Isaac named his first son James and James named his first son Isaac.[3]

He is listed as living in Lumpkin County, Georgia in the 1850 US Census, along with his wife and children:[4]

James Forester (Foster) (head) 1812- 38 NC
Kaziah (Kizziah) Foster (wife) 1812-38 SC
Isaac Foster (son) 1830-20 NC (this is what was shown on the census)
Greenville Foster (son) 1832-18 NC
Jackson Foster (son) 1834-16 NC
(Caroline) Jane Foster (daughter) 1836-14 GA
Leander (Daniel) Foster (son) 1838-12 GA
Mary Foster (daughter) 1840-10 GA
Albert (Charles) Foster (son) 1842-8 GA
Rosanna Foster (daughter) 1844-6 GA
Martha Ann Foster (daughter) 1846-4 GA
Harrison Foster (son) 1850-1 GA
Amicalola, Lumpkin, GA

Records are few and indirect for him; he and his wife Kizzia Davis are both mentioned as parents in the official death record for Jackson Foster, who died in 1923.[5] They are also mentioned as parents for an unknown "N. R. Foster" born in 1850 and died in 1921.[6]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

I think the birth date should be "about 1810" given the headstone inscription. If he died on 17 Mar 1860 at age 49, that means his birth-date must be somewhere between 18 Mar 1810 (if his 50th birthday was the next day) and 16 Mar 1811 (if he had just turned 49 the previous day). The preponderance of that date range falls in the year 1810.

Foster-10572 and Foster-10549 appear to represent the same person; the second one, Foster-10572 appears to be an artifact of the GED import process. The first one, Foster-10549, is the one with all the main information plus your pictures. I have updated this one so that it contains all the information from 10572, which can effectively be discarded by the merge.
