John served with the Maryland Militia during American Revolution. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) states that he was a private under Capt Peter Mantz. [1] The Patriot Search site does not show any information, although there were applications. [2]

The couple went on to have nine children.
After Elizabeth's death, he married (2) Sarah Cresap Innis, on 20 December 1783.[4]
He was on a trip managing his 2nd wife's estate, became ill and died 01 January 1800 in Waverly, Ohio. He was taken back to the family cemetery to be buried in Foster Cemetery, Pike County, Ohio [5]
