Cuthbert served during World War I , enlisting on 24 September 1914, as a temporary Captain with the Royal Marines, Royal Navy.[3]
Marriages and Children
Cuthbert was married twice. He married 1) Ruby Garman (24 Oct 1886-2 Jan 1948) in 1907 at Dublin, Ireland.[4] They had two daughters:
Druscilla Madeline Foster (b. 1908; d. 1961) m. 1 Oct 1931 at Hereford, England, Gerard Leigh "Peter" Clay (1904-1995)
Bridget Ruby Foster (b. 16 Jan 1910; d. 1995) m. 1) 1933 at Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, Richard Vivers Matson; m. 2) Oct 1937 at Barnet, England, Frederick Michael Symonds (1911-1996)
In 1939, Cuthbert and Ruby were living at Hadley Bourne in East Barnet, Hertfordshire, England. He is listed as being a Royal Marine, Retired.[5]
Cuthbert and Ruby immigrated to the United States say 1941 and settled in Boston, Massachusetts. Ruby (Garman) Foster died on 2 January 1948 at Boston.
Cuthbert married 2) Hattie M. (Strong) Griffin (1898-1975), daughter of Joseph and Maria (O'Leary) Strong say 1949. There were no children from this union. Hattie had children with her first husband, Mr. Griffin.
Death and Burial
Cuthbert Wellesely Foster died on 9 January 1952 in his year ate Newton, Massachusetts.[6] He is buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery at West Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[7]
